District 7750 April 2010

Magazine Month

April is Magazine Month, and a gentle suggestion that the Rotarian is good for more than getting your personal and club number off of the label.  The Rotarian is the way to see what the world of Rotary is all about.  And if you don’t have time to read it in April, hold onto it until you do have time. I think I am through the December magazine.

Service and Fund Raising Efforts

I will shortly be getting out a document to the AGs that has all of my compiled information on the fund raising and service activities.  Most of the info was valid for the year prior to my official visit.  I have asked the AGs to review the information with each club President to see if it looks correct or if they would like to update. We will have a news release during District Conference to news papers around the District about this information.

Golf Ball Drop (POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER)

This event was intended to help club Presidents meet their polio goals. We have said that $2000 per club is difficult for small clubs and pocket change for large clubs.  We changed to a suggested $37 per member.  The $25 golf ball was a way to make those contributions.

We were planning to hold the drop on Friday afternoon, April 30.  However, with the Conference, Golf Tournament, Awards Banquet, etc., it was just too much.  We will integrate it into the regular polio program with a planned drop during Foundation month in November.  Contributions to date will be held until the drop, or refunded if the donor desires.

April Fools

PetsApril Fools Day came on and actually made a case that spring is finally here. The trees are blooming and flowers are blooming.  The dogwoods and Azaleas should come next week. For once, the Masters ground keepers did not have to ice down the plants to keep them from blooming before the Masters.

Congratulations to Becky Faulkner, the AGs and the Club President Elects for a successful Carolinas  PETS.  They are all into their planning for next year.

I owe the existing Assistant Governors and Club Presidents a big time apology for piling so many things on their platter at what is one of busiest times of year. This is something District Governor’s never do and it is also not an April Fools Joke. I have piled on too many requests, and I do apologize.  Somehow, we need to spread some things out. Maybe Becky will be smarter. -- George

Greenville Evening

DSG Project

The Greenville Evening Rotary Club recently gave $2500 to Mauldin Miracle League. This donation was made possible from a District Simplified Grant from Rotary District 7750. This check was presented to Dennis Raines and Don Johnson of the Mauldin Miracle League during a regular club meeting. More.

District Conference, April 30, May 1, May 2

The theme, as has been my theme for the whole year, is “Make It Memorable.”  The Conference will begin Friday night with an arts walk, then dinner at the falls, then music by the cast of Rock N Roll Heaven, then dancing in the park to your favorite music. More.

Time is right to end polio

New tools, tactics, give Rotary and its partners best shot at finishing the job.

RLIRLI in Duncan

The second District 7750 Rotary Leadership Institute of 2009-2010 was held at the Tyger River Campus of Spartanburg Community College on March 27.  Rotarians from four districts in North and South Carolina gathered to spend the day in learning more about Rotary and enhancing their leadership skills.  Thanks to Buddy Smith, District 7750 RLI Chair, and the faculty team who worked hard to make this a great event.  As one participant noted, “This is the best Rotary training I’ve ever had.”  Graduate pins were presented to three Rotarians: Jim Barfield (Lexington, District 7770), Nora Lindenbeck (Matthews, District 7680), and Carl McIntosh (Sumter Palmetto, District 7770).  [Bert Strange, SC State Chair]
