Reading by 8
Reading by 8 is project that involves a number of scheduled activities in March including Rotary Literacy Day.
As a central part of this project, David Boulton will speak on “The Economic Impact of Reading and Learning Readiness” at the Rotary Club of Greenville on March 23. The purpose of this Rotary program is to raise club member awareness. Rotary’s involvement in the Reading by 8 project gives us a better chance of making a difference for children in Greenville.
David has delivered a number of presentations on this topic. He is the Director of The Children of the Code, a national Education Project and a Public Television Series intended to catalyze and resource a social-educational transformation in how we think about and, ultimately, teach reading. The Children of the Code is an educational journey into the challenges our children's brains face when learning to read.
With our Literacy partners, the project extends the benefit of David Boulton’s visit to audiences of parents, educators, businessmen, and emerging leaders. There will be a public session titled "Impact of Shame on How Children Learn" as well as a Scorecard session led by Greenville Forward so that we begin to define common measures for moving ahead together.
District 7750 Rotarians are invited to participate in either or both presentations. The Rotary meeting on 3/23 will be 12-1:30pm at the Poinsett Hotel and the public event is on 3/22 6:30-8:00pm at the University Center auditorium.
